Maintaining balance in your life requires keeping your mind healthy. How do you do this? Taking care of your mind, or keeping it healthy, is like taking care of anything else in your body. You need to use it, be mindful of thoughts you allow to flow through, and by letting it rest. Your mind is a powerful thing, and too much or too little focus on the mind can throw your life out of balance. What does this mean? It means that, if your primary focus is on “mind things,” you’re neglecting your body and your soul. For instance, if you’re constantly studying, reading, or ruminating (letting the same thought run through your mind over and over), you’re taking time away from your physical health, by not exercising and eating healthily, and you’re neglecting your soul by not engaging in spiritual activities, whether it’s meditating, praying, or reading spiritual materials. Your mind needs to rest just like any other part of your body, or it becomes overworked and stressed. If you’re neglecting your mind by focusing too much on body or soul, it becomes unhealthy as well. How or why? If you’re only concerned with how your body looks or feels, or if you are totally focused on your spiritual life, not concerning yourself with your “mind needs,” your mind becomes unhealthy because it isn’t being used. Your mind requires stimulation to maintain health and functioning. As you, may already have figured out, your mind, body, and soul each affect the other, and this is why you need balance in your life.
